Trevor Hoffman Coming To The LA Dodgers? | Manny Update

According to the LA Times, the LA Dodgers are pursuing free-agent closer Trevor Hoffman who played for the San Diego Padres last year. Trevor Hoffman is 41 years old and went 3-6 with a 3.77 earned run average last season and converted 30 of 34 saves. For those that think that Trevor Hoffman no longer has good stuff at 41 he was able to pitch with a 1.59 ERA after the All-Star break.

Also pursuing Trevor Hoffman are the Milwaukee Brewers but being that Hoffman lives in North San Diego County I think the LA Dodgers have the upper hand on this one.

Signing Trevor Hoffman would allow the LA Dodgers to keep Jonathon Broxton as a setup man for another year or two because he clearly showed last year during the season and in the playoffs that he’s not ready to be a closer. It also gives them an experienced closer for another season or two to continue the evaluation of Jonathon Broxton…

Manny Update

The San Francisco Giants have come from out of nowhere in typical Scott Boras fashion to become a contender in the Manny Ramirerz sweepstakes… I’m not sure what to think of this but at the very least I hope it gets the LA Dodgers off their ass and they realize that they’re going to have to pay for three seasons if they expect Manny Ramirez to be happy here playing for the LA Dodgers.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that you don’t need much to win the National League West and I would venture to say that whichever team signs Manny Ramirez, if any, would be the front runner to win the National League West. As of right now I would say all the teams in the National League West are equally matched and they all have a chance at winning the division. The LA Dodgers need to do what they should’ve done since day one. Sign Manny Ramirez to a three-year contract worth about 65 million. Enough already with the frugal management of this team… These are the LA Dodgers for Pete’s sake!

Other LA Dodgers News…

Chan Ho Park signed with the Philadelphia Phillies today and the Phillies must have seen how valuable Park was to the LA Dodgers when they played in the playoffs. This is a big loss for this Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. Chan Ho Park started for the Dodgers last year and he also pitched a lot of tough and valuable innings out of the bullpen.

Andruw Jones who the Dodgers are trying to trade was supposedly playing Winter league baseball in the Dominican so he could show his wares to other baseball teams and according to sources was batting .148! Good luck to the LA Dodgers and Frank McCourt in trying to trade Andruw Jones and his $21 million contract and his 148 batting average away.
