I'll tell you what Manny Ramirez has to be kicking himself in the arse for dogging it in Boston becasue it's costing him big time in the negotiating department right now. It's gotten to the point where I think the LA Dodgers have to know something about Manny Ramirez and the rest of the teams in the league (I don't know collusion maybe amongst the owners)... why else wouldn't you do everything in your power to sign the one guy that turns your club into a World Series contender literally overnight?
One of the things that no one else is talking about right now is the fact that all of these LA Dodgers with unlimited amounts of potential (allegedly) are watching very closely right now and they're getting a very good idea of what it's going to be like to negotiate with the LA Dodgers when their contracts are up. Is this the kind of message you want to send to your young players Frank McCourt?

And not only do the youngsters on this Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Team have to worry about future negotiations with McCourt but now they also have to worry about Joe Torre writing a tell all book somewhere down the line...
Back to Manny.
I don't think I'm going out on a limb here by saying that the LA Dodgers need Manny Ramirez. And the fans that think Manny Ramirez alone will take this Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team deep into the playoffs are crazy because in case you haven't noticed the LA Dodgers lost the ace of their pitching staff in Derek Lowe and their closer in Takashi Saito this off season as well as th number 2 guy in their starting rotation in Brad Penny...
As it stands right now this pitching staff is very young and very green and I shouldn't have to remind you of what happened to youngsters like Chad Billingsley and Jonathon Broxton in the playoffs.
This team is sad the way it stands right now but even sadder is the fact that it's still probably good enough to win the National League West.
Frank McCourt has done a major disservice to LA dodger fans if this is the team he plans on fielding in 2009. Since when did it become good enough to just win the National League West and then go and get slaughtered in the playoffs?
Frank McCourt doesn't want to win. Frank McCourt wants to make money. As a businessman I can appreciate that. As a fan... I can't accept that.
The way the LA Dodgers have done Manny Ramirez this off season I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Manny go sign the first multi year contract he gets form another team and the hated San Franciso Giants are now reportedly willing to offer Manny a two year contract similar to the one the Dodgers originally offered... and oh yea the really good news is that Manny has already publicly said he would NOT give the LA Dodgers the final chance to match offers from other teams.
As an LA Dodgers fan I've had to endure a lot of bad seasons, seen a lot of bad trades and I can tell you the one thing that will break this camels back is seeing Manny Ramirez in a Giants uniform... that's the day I take all of my Dodger gear and light in on fire.
