Sometimes good things to happen to good people.
Meet Rafael Furcal, All-Star.
Furcal was added to the National League All-Star team Saturday to replace injured Mets shortstop Jose Reyes.
This will be the second All-Star appearance for Furcal, but his first as a Dodger. Previously he was an All-Star for the Braves in 2003.
Furcal becomes the third Dodger named to the NL squad for Tuesday’s game in Anaheim, joining starting outfielder Andre Ethier and reliever Jonathan Broxton.
It hasn’t been the easiest road this season for Furcal. He was placed on the disabled list earlier this year because of a strained hamstring, and last month his father died.
Yet the Dodgers’ leadoff hitter has not only put together an outstanding season, he’s arriving at the break absolutely on fire. He has hit in 13 of his last 14 games, batting .450 with 20 runs and 15 RBIs.
If Furcal had enough at-bats to qualify, he would lead the National League in hitting at .333.
