Dodgers acquire outfielder Scott Podsednik from Royals for pair of minor leaguers

by on July 28, 2010

All those questions about the Dodgers’ pitching this season gave way Wednesday to their sudden need for another bat.

The Dodgers announced prior to Wednesday’s game in San Diego they had acquired outfielder Scott Podsednik from the Kansas City Royals for a pair of minor leaguers, catcher Lucas May and pitcher Elisaul Pimentel.

Podsednik, 34, was batting .309 for the Royals, with five home runs and 44 RBI. He also has 30 stolen bases in 42 attempts.

The Dodgers expect him to join the team Thursday. He is owed about $600,000 the rest of the season. There is a club option next year at $2 million, with a $100,000 buyout.

The Dodgers are barely averaging two runs in their 12 games since the All-Star break.

May, 25, was batting .296 at triple-A Albuquerque with 11 home runs and 45 RBI, but recently had to make room for catcher A.J. Ellis.

Pimentel, 22, was a 9-3 with a 3.49 ERA for Class-A Great Lakes.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
